WBC Super Featherweight champion Manny Pacquiao, boxingʼs No. 1 pound for pound fighter, and WBC Lightweight Champion David Diaz, the pride of Chicago, will make their grand arrivals today followed by media workouts as they kickoff fight week in Las Vegas for their world title fight.
Pacquiao, 46-3-2 (35), is riding a seven bout win streak that has seen him vanquish such top names as Juan Manuel Marquez, Eric Morales (twice), Marco Antonio Barrera, Oscar Larios, Jorge Solis and Hector Velazquez over the last three years.
Diaz, 34-1-1 (17), has gone nine bouts without a loss including wins over Morales and Jose Armando Santa Cruz and having spent the first half of his career as a light welter, will be the biggest fighter that Pacquiao has ever faced.
A top notch undercard supports the main event as Humberto Soto, 44-6-2 (28), squares off with Francisco Lorenzo, 32-2 (14), for the Interim WBC Super Feather title.
WBO Featherweight Champion Steven Luevano, 35-1 (15), puts his title at risk against challenger Mario Santiago, 19-1 (14), and heavyweight Tye Fields, 41-1 (37), faces his toughest test to date in the form of ex-world title challenger Monte Barrett, 33-6 (19), in a scheduled ten rounder.
Promoted by Top Rank, in association with MP Promotions, Pacquiao vs. Diaz will take place Saturday, June 28, at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, Las Vegas , Nevada. The 12-round lightweight championship bout will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View, beginning at 9 P.M. ET / 6 P.M. PT.
