British Boxing: Lightning Ready To Strike As Daws Targets Mutu

By Boxing Press June 24th, 2008 All Press Releases

Lenny Daws believes he will deserve another crack at the British title if he beats experienced Frenchman Mihaita Mutu at the York Hall this Friday, June 27, 2008.

The Hennessy Sports light welterweight is chief support on the same excitement packed bill as British super bantamweight champion Esham Pickering versus Matthew Marsh, which Sky Sports will televise live.

'Lightning' Lenny of Morden/Carshalton in London lost his British Light Welterweight title to Scotland's Barry Morrison on points last year and is looking for another opportunity to prove he is the best of Britain.

Daws wants the winner of Morrison against new champion David Barnes of Manchester on July 4 and sees beating Mutu as the ideal preparation.

"This is a chance for me to show I'm ready for another shot," said Daws, who is supported by the Morden massive. "Mutu has got an eight round points win over Barry Morrison, who fights David Barnes for the British title a week after my fight, so he is no mug.

"If I can look good against Mutu, it will help my chances of fighting the winner of Barnes-Morrison or may be get me an eliminator. I was a little bit disappointed with my draw against Nigel Wright for the English title last time out in November because I thought I did enough to win.

"But this fight will get me sharpened up and it will not be easy because he has challenged for the European title before. I want to get the win over him and then be ready for anyone, anytime."

Tickets are available as Reserved Ringside for £60 and Unreserved for £35. Call the Box Office on: 0870 060 1795 or book via the web www.ticketmaster.co.uk
