Tanzanian veteran Obote “The Thunder” Ameme, 38-14-2, (27), feels ready to test Danish prospect Kim Poulsen to the limit on July 11 in Cuxhaven, Germany.
Boxing six rounds with a nine-fight-novice after several title fights and more than fifty total paid fights, doesn’t concern the 29-year-old from Dar-Es-Salaam.
“I don’t see Poulsen having any advantages over me," said Amene two weeks before the bout. "I have more power, more experience and I think I might be faster than him too. I will give him hell for six rounds, and of course I am coming to win."
After convincingly getting revenge over tough Frenchman Tony Jourda, the only man to have beaten Poulsen, the Dane is also confident that he can handle Ameme. He has been in the gym more or less every day since the Jourda bout in April, and is in tip-top shape.
“I haven’t really been out of the gym since I fought Jourda, as I was supposed to box in May and then June, but both those fights were cancelled for various reasons," said Poulsen.
"However, I won’t be over-trained as we are good at keeping my fitness at the exact right level all the time. Ameme may be confident of beating me, but I am of course very confident too."
Poulsen’s Risum Boxing-stablemate Fawaz Nasir, 13-2 (8), is headlining the open-air show in an eight rounder against IBF # 4 super middleweight Robert Stieglitz, 31-2 (19). Nasir is fighting to take over the German's world-ranking in what is his most important fight so far.
