McBride Returns at Foxwoods.

By Boxing Press February 14th, 2005 All Boxing News, Press Releases

Northeast Promotions, in association with Cappiello Promotions, is bringing live boxing to Foxwoods Resort and Casino. The main event will feature an attractive heavyweight bout as Kevin "The Clones Colossus" McBride 34-4-1, 26 ko's, makes his return to the ring against Kevin "Big Dog" Montiy, 15-2-1, 12 ko's. McBride, who fights out of Brockton, MA by way of Clones Ireland, isn't looking ahead. "My goal has always been to win a world title and right now Kevin Montiy is in my way," said an eager McBride. "I need to make an immediate impression on the heavyweight division and it begins March 18th. At this point I don't know much about Montiy accept that, like me, he is Irish American and a big heavyweight," said the 31 year old Mcbride.

The 6'5, 29 year old Montiy will certainly try to derail McBride's plans but is easily facing his toughest test to date. The Michigan native has yet to go past the sixth round so fireworks are expected. "This fight is gonna end in a knockout one way or the other," predicted McBride's promoter Richie Cappiello. Our ultimate goal is to get Kevin in position for a world title shot. We lost out on a chance to fight Mike Tyson at the last minute so if he fights again we hope to get that opportunity."

The co-feature on the night will be a battle of Welterweights as Luther "Sugarman" Smith 22-3-2, 12 ko's, will fight Delvin Rodriguez 13-1-1, 6 ko's. The most notable victory for the 34 year old Smith was a second round knockout of Oba Carr.

The 24 year old Rodriguez, of Bridgeport, CT by way of Santiago De Los Caballeros, is considered a decent young prospect in the Welterweight division but needs a win over Smith to even be considered as a contender.

On the undercard, which will be officially announced shortly, will be "Irish" John Duddy, former Canadian amateur champ Anthony Russel, and The Clancy brothers, James, and Mark.
