Danny Williams is set for a second world title shot if he successfully defends his British heavyweight title against ‘Big Bad’ John McDermott at Goresbrook Leisure Centre in Dagenham, England on Friday, July 18, 2008.
Representatives from the camp of WBC champion Samuel Peter will be ringside in Dagenham to discuss a showdown against the winner.
The Nigerian Nightmare’s promoter Dino Duva has held initial talks with promoter Frank Maloney, and a fight against Williams or McDermott could be staged in London this autumn.
Maloney, a close friend of Duva’s for 17 years said, “We were close to making a fight between Danny and Peter for this month, but TV schedules didn’t work out. Danny’s defence against John is now virtually a world title eliminator and a big punch could land one of them the jackpot.
“Danny has been revitalised in his last four fights, and is still known in America for his amazing win over Tyson and incredible bravery against Vitali Klitschko. When John turned professional he said he would be a world champion by 2008. Don’t laugh because he could realise his dreams.”
The star-studded supporting bill includes Irish heavyweight puncher Scott Belshaw, former Commonwealth light-welterweight title holder Ajose Olusegun and former British bantamweight champion Martin Power.
Tickets for the blockbuster clash priced £40 and £90 (including VIP Bar) can be purchased from 0871 226 1508 or www.frankmaloney.com.
The show will be televised live by Sky Sports.
