The “Black Panther” is back in town! After returning to Hamburg on Monday Juan Carlos Gomez, 43-1 (35), currently no. 2 in the WBC world ratings, is full of self-confidence for his upcoming WBC Eliminator against no. 1 rated Vladimir Virchis, 24-1 (20).
“Coming back to Hamburg always feels like coming home”, states Gomez. “I have only one goal: 'The Black Panther' is going big-game hunting. I promise all of my fans: I will be world heavyweight champion soon!”
But first of all the former world cruiserweight champion of 1998 – 2001 has to beat “Hunter” Vladimir Virchis and settle an outstanding score as well.
“Everybody knows that I am not only fighting against Virchis but also against my old promoter who had probably never thought that he would have to pay my purse again. Peter, reach for your wallet and give me my money – and add some as win bonus because I will definitely beat your boy!”
Southpaw Gomez has been training in L.A. so far and will do his specific preparation for the fight in Germany . “I will be in the best shape of my career so far”, promises Gomez. “This is the big chance I have been waiting and working for. Nobody will step between me and my world title shot.
"After beating Virchis I will go on to become champion of the world. Hopefully I will have my title match against Vitali Klitschko. But after all it doesn’t matter who I will face. I will become world heavyweight champion for me, my family, my fans and ARENA Box-Promotion, of course.”
Arena-CEO Ahmet Öner is looking forward to the first direct clash with his Hamburg based competition. “It’s about time that this fight happens” says Öner. “I am sure that Juan will beat Virchis. Of course, it would be nice to have a title shot against Vitali Klitschko afterwards because there would be a lot of money in that fight.”
