Dunne, If You Want It, Come And Get It
Frank Maloney, promoter of Rendall Munroe, the European Super Bantamweight Champion has decided to answer criticism from Dublin, Ireland based boxer Bernard Dunne’s camp.
"At no time has the European champion Munroe declined to fight Bernard Dunne, the former European champ, who was stopped in round one by Kiko Martinez last August," said Maloney.
When asked if Munroe would be willing to d efend against Dunne, Maloney said, "Yes, but on the proviso that the fight takes place in England and on Sky TV, as we are the champion and you [Dunne] are not.
"Yes, I did decline to go to Dublin as Munroe is the champion.
"[Brian] Peters [Dunne's promoter] seems to have a short memory; when Dunne was champion, he [Peters] declined to take Munroe as a voluntary. He said that Munroe was the wrong sort of opponent.
"So who is running and who needs who? Ask yourself."
"The offer is still open for Dunne to come to England and fight the champion in front of the Sky TV cameras before Munroe’s up and coming voluntary defence is finalised this weekend.
"Rendall Munroe is the champion and Dunne is not the mandatory challenger, so if Dunne doesn’t want to take this offer up, he will have to get in line and wait until he is the mandatory and that could be at least a year from now.
"Team Dunne, if you want the fight, you know my number.
