Three-time world champion Carina "La Reina" Moreno, 18-1 (5), wastes little time continuing the quest to become the greatest female boxer of her generation. Riding a ten fight winning streak, Moreno, the WBC Female Fighter of the Year, is ready to get back into the ring on August 21, 2008 at the Tachi Place Hotel and Casino in Lemoore, California.
The minimumweight champion will be making the fifth defense of her WBC title against tough Puerto Rican challenger Yahaira Martinez, 7-2 (4). In addition, Moreno and Martinez will fight for the vacant WIBA title.
Flying in from Puerto Rico to face Moreno in front of a hostile crowd, Martinez is coming to win. Yahaira is quite possibly Moreno's toughest opponent. Both losses on Martinez's record come against well proven veteran champions Wendy Rodriguez, 19-4 (3), and Julia Sahin, 20-0 (2).
In her last fight, Moreno moved up to light flyweight and defeated the strong Eileen Olszewski, 5-2 (0), capturing the IFBA title. "La Reina" looks to continue her winning ways as she stated, "After moving up in weight and winning a title my confidence is at an all time high. Martinez will be a tough fight, but I believe in my ability to come out victorious. The fans will get their money's worth come fight night."
