Boxing Prospect Velazquez Twins Win At Morongo Wednesday Night

By Boxing Press July 25th, 2008 All Press Releases

Golden Boy's rising stars, twin featherweight sensations Carlos Ivan and Juan Carlos Velasquez, remain undefeated as they maintained their quest of becoming world champions by winning on a Wednesday night bill at Morongo Casino in Cabazon, California.

Carlos Ivan continued to shine as he demolished David Vasquez via 2nd round TKO. In the opening round, the Puerto Rican native imposed his strength as he pushed Vasquez back while landing nice left hooks to the head.

Moving on to the second round, Carlos continued to apply pressure, landing a barrage of punches, and ending the contest with a powerful right hand to the chin, forcing referee Raul Caiz stop the action at the 1:12 mark.

Carlos improves to, 8-0 (7), while Vasquez, who was returning from a two year absence form the ring, loses his fifth straight to fall to 17-13-3 (10).

"I'm happy with my performance," said Carlos. "Vasquez is a fighter with a lot of experience, so I wanted to come out aggressive and it paid off. I feel great. I'm ready for the next step up. It's time to get back in the gym."

Twin brother Juan Carlos' winning streak stays alive as he moves to, 9-0 (5), scoring a second round TKO over 35 year old Dominican super bantam, Edison Morillo.

In the first round, a timid Morillo ran around the ring as Juan stalked h im while trying to land punches. Morillo pulled Juan down to the canvas early in the second and quit, giving Velasquez the TKO.

"I wanted to showcase my skills tonight, but my opponent didn't come to fight," said Juan Carlos." I'm hoping to get a tougher challenge next time out. I got the win and that's what matters."
