Commonwealth Middleweight Champion "Dazzling" Darren Barker will come face to face with challenger Larry Sharpe for the first time when the two meet for a press conference this coming Wednesday at River Cree Casino in Enoch, Alberta.
Barker, 17-0 (11), will put his belt on the line for the second time following his title winning effort against Australia's previously unbeaten Ben Crampton last November, but the 26 year old from the Harrow section of London has never fought outside his native England.
Challenging Barker at River Cree on Friday, August 15 will be one of Canada's top men at light middle and middle, southpaw Larry "Razor" Sharpe.
34 year old Sharpe, 22-4 (10), the reigning WBA Fedecentro Light Middleweight Champion, has won his last six bouts, five by early stoppage, since dropping a close spilt decision to Canadian Middleweight titlist Byron Mackie in November, 2006.
The highly durable Sharpe has challenged for the Commonwealth Middleweight title previously, losing by the only stoppage of his career, in the ninth round to the superb British Champion of the time, Scott Dann, in February, 2006.
Also scheduled to appear at the conference are first round knockout specialist Tyrone “Young Gun” Brunson and fnd from the undercard, Logan Cotton McGuinness, Jason Delaronde, Trevor Moyah, Sheldon Hinton, Omar Valdez, Antonio Soriono, Billy Arnott, Eduardo Calderon, Stephane Tessier, Areil Gonzales and Tim Watts.
Tickets to the August 15 show at River Cree Casino are available by logging onto www.ticketmaster.ca or calling the Ticketmaster box office on 780-451-8000.
