Star Boxing: Prospect Raymond Serrano Jr Added To Tonight’s New Alhambra Fight Card

By Boxing Press August 30th, 2008 All Press Releases

Tonight at the New Alhambra in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Raymond Serrano Jr., 6-0 (4), one of Star Boxing's brightest stars, takes on veteran Jimmy LeBlanc, 11-14-4 (3), in a six round welterweight contest. The bout will be Serrano's first scheduled six rounder. The card's headliner sees Mike Jones, 14-0 (12), battle Juliano Ramos, 15-1 (12). for the vacant NABA welterweight championship. The show will be broadcast live on Telefutura.

Serrano has showed tremendous poise and ability since he burst onto the scene back on October 19, 2007 when he made his pro debut against Tierre King.

Serrano began boxing at only 8 years old. His storied amateur career included boxing on the U.S. National team and competing in the Junior Olympics. Serrano won the international Junior Olympic championship in 2005. In 2006, he won the Pennsylvania Golden Gloves. As an amateur, Serrano compiled over 100 victories.

Joe DeGuardia, CEO of Star Boxing, is excited to have the young Serrano back in action again this year. "We are happy to be having Raymond fighting again this year. This is going to be his seventh fight in less than a year and we are very pleased with his progression thus far," said DeGuardia.

"Raymond has shown ability and a skill level far beyond his age and each time out he impresses me more and more. He is such a well mannered, well- spoken gentlemen outside the ring you would never guess he was a professional boxer. But trust me, once Raymond gets inside that squared circle, he immediately transforms and you can see the fighter inside of him come out.

"We at Star feel that Raymond is going to one day sit alone at the top of the welterweight division and we are very excited to be working with him and are looking forward to what's to come."

At just 19 years of age, it would seem that the sky truly is the limit for this welterweight phenom.
