Saturday night at the Kings Hall in Stoke, England, ‘Impact Boxing’ hosted a fight night featuring six contests and headlined by lightweight Scott Lawton.

A characterful venue -The Kings Hall boasts a large stage at one end, an upstairs galleried section and a beautiful ornate arched ceiling. A good crowd filled the hall on what turned out to be a warm evening.

First to fight was Omar Gumati of Chester as he faced Peter ’Desperate’ Dunn of Pontefract in a six round middleweight contest. Dunn put up a good effort but took the count in round five and had a welcome break in round six while his gum-shield was retrieved. Gumati wins by points 60-54 and improves to 7-4-1 (2).

Popular Jimmy Doherty of Stoke faced Tye Williams of Dewsbury, in a six round light middleweight contest. Jimmy ‘The Whirlwind’ was looking to get back on the winning streak after his defeat to Dale Miles last time out.

Having rowdy support from friends and family must have helped Doherty during a tough fight against Southpaw – Williams. On receiving the 59-57 winning points score – the Stoke man enjoyed some camera-time with family!

Chester based fighter Chris Goodwin, was up against ‘veteran-workhorse’ Karl Taylor of Birmingham. A good ‘scrap’ between both men with the fourth and final round turning in to a bit of a ‘tear-up’. Aged just 19, Goodwin, secured a 40-36 points win over Taylor. His record now stands at 7-1.

Home-boy Scott Miller faced ‘Gypsy Boy’ Billy Smith of Stourport in a four round welterweight contest. Flame-haired Miller did well to secure a 40-36 points win over tough and experienced Smith. Miller improves to 6-0 (3).

The fight between Paul Economides and Tony McQuade turned in to the ‘tear-up’of the evening! Economides of Chester and McQuade of Peterborough set a fast pace from the start of this six round featherweight contest!

There was big support for Economides, who looked keen to impress. “Take your time!” his corner shouts, “Pick your shots!”. Rounds two and three develop in to a real ‘scrap’ between these two as they keep up the pace and both men land with straight left punches. “He’s looking for the right hook!” Economides’s corner shouts as they slug it out in round four.

There’s a bad cut over Economides’s right brow in the sixth and final round but he sees it through to win the fight on points 59-57. Economides notches up his third pro-win and no losses.

The final contest of the night was between Stoke’s Scott Lawton and Iraq-born Ali Wyatt of Torquay. Lawton produced a ‘classy’ display of boxing in this six round lightweight contest. Landing some ‘quality’ body-punches and straight rights particularly in the latter rounds – Lawton was in great form to secure a 60-55 points win over Wyatt.

Lawton’s record now stands at 24-4-1 (4).
