European Boxing News: Krasniqi, Dimitrenko, Sturm, Brahmer,Klitschko, Povetkin, Kessler

By Boxing Press September 17th, 2008 All Press Releases

By Per Ake Persson

Universum have announced that heavyweights Luan Krasniqi and Aleksander Dimitrenko will fight on November 15 at the Burg-Waechter Castello in Düsseldorf making it a "Golden November" with Felix Sturm vs Sebastian Sylvester scheduled for November 1 in Oberhausen and Hugo Hernan Garay vs Jurgen Brahmer set for November 22 in Rostock.

Especially Sturm vs Sylvester stands out. Krasniqi and Dimitrenko in a WBO I/C title fight is an internal eliminator where Dimitrenko got a lot to lose but needs to impress to continue a further climb up the ladder. For Luan it´s his last chance simple as that.

However, Bild Zeitung reveals today that Brahmer´s participation in this might be uncertain as a prosecutor in Schwerin are investigating not just one but two cases involving Brahmer in claimed assault affairs. In the first case the victim withdrew the charge but the prosecutor insisted on letting the case run as he viewed it had "general interest".

The second affair involves the girlfriend of the other victim. In both cases Brahmer are claimed to have slapped or hit them, both times in bars and at least the first time under the influence of alcohol. As both incidents took place while Jurgen was still under probation (ending Sep 15) both cases ar e even more serious for the fighter. There are no official word form Universum yet.

K 2 won the purse bids to stage Wladimir Klitschko vs Alexander Povetkin with an offer for $13,130,130 USD. K 2 have December 13 in Halle / Westfalen as working date with RTL televising in Germany - the very same date as Sauerland and their network ARD have planned for Nikolai Valuev´s first defence of the WBA title.

The Swedish Federation have written the EBU in regards of Maria Lindberg, who as previously reported, was licensed by the BDB in Germany. SBF in Sweden argues that in the AIBA regulations it´s clearly stated that a boxer that has suffered a cerebral haemorrage never shall box again in view of what is called a second impact. It´s a good argument: proboxing is a lot more dangerous than amateur boxing. It will be interesting to see how the EBU and the BDB reacts. Another thing is that a suspension in one country is according to an agreement within the members of the EBU to be honored.

WBA super middle champ Mikkel Kessler writes on his website mikkelkessler.com that he is in full training for his upcoming defence a gainst Danilo Haussler October 25 in Duesseldorf. Sparring will begin September 22.
