Boxing In Germany: Two European Titles At Risk Tonight In Bielefeld

Seidensticker Hall in Bielefeld tonight sees a big show with two European title fights on tap for the cruiserweight and super middle crowns up for grabs.

Former IBF Youth and French titlist Jean Marc Monrose, 24-1 (15), makes the first defense of the European belt that he won by stopping previously undefeated Johny Jensen in the first round back in May but will face experienced Yugoslav born local man Marco Huck, 21-1 (16), a former European Union title holder.

Huck had blasted his way through respectable European competition and earned a title shot against IBF Champion Steve Cunningham in December of last year. Despite an edge in youth and perhaps strength, Huck was no match for the highly mobile and fast-handed champion as Cunningham won by a 12th and final round stoppage.

European Super Middle Champ Karo Murat, 17-0 (11), will also be making his maiden voyage as a Continental titlist, having taken the trophy from seasoned Italian southpaw Cristian Sanavia in a hotly contested bout this past April.

Challenging Murat will be left-handed stylist Gabriel Campillo, 16-1 (6), a former Spanish Light Heavyweight titlist who comes to Bielefeld riding a four bout win streak.

On the undercard, European Union Light Middleweight kingpin Christophe Canclaux, 36-2 (22), of France faces Estonia’s Albert Starikov, 11-9 (4), over eight rounds in a non-title bout and cruiserweight prospect Geoffrey Batello, 16-0 (13), meets Walter Palacios, 19-15-2 (11), over the same distance.
