Perhaps the greatest achievement ever by a professional boxer was Henry Armstrong's simultaneous holding of the World Featherweight, Lightweight and Welterweight titles in the late 1930's.
The all-time great, who sadly passed away in 1988 at 75 years of age, will be honored in his hometown of Colombus, Mississippi on October 13, 2008 with a celebration where the Governor of Mississippi will declare the date "Henry Armstrong Day".
The weekend of celebrations kicks off with an evening of Friday Night Fights on October 10 at the Trotter Convention Center with 2008 Olympic Bronze Medallist Deontay Wilder featured as a special guest. For more information on the evening, contact Oliver Miller at 662-364-3443.
There will be many more activities surrounding this celebration and to learn more, contact the Colombus Visitors Bureau at 662-329-1191 or view their online calendar of events for the Henry Armstrong Weekend http://www.columbus-ms.org/calendar/event.php?calendar=1&category=&event=7360&date=2008-10-11
