Brian Halquist Boxing: Battle At The Boat Fight Series Returns October 25

By Boxing Press October 4th, 2008 All Press Releases

Two of the Northwest’s favorite fighters return to the ring on the 69th installment of the Emerald Queen Casino’s Battle at the Boat Professional Boxing series, October 25, 2008.

Othello, Washington’s David Torres, 20-1 (13), coming off of his first professional defeat will face Mexico’s Zaid Zavaleta, 18-4 (11), in an eight round fight. Torres lost to world title contender Julio Diaz in a fight broadcast live on ESPN 2 from the Playboy Mansion. "David needs to win this fight," said promoter Brian Halquist. "Diaz is a world title contender and David has nothing to feel bad about. He needs to bounce back and win this fight and show the boxing fans what David Torres is all about" said Halquist.

Another Northwest favorite Roger Cantrell, 12-1 (8) ,will face Bakersfield, California’s Billy Bailey, 7-2 (2), in a six round light heavyweight showdown. Cantrell, like Torres, is coming off a televised loss to Olympic Gold Medalist Andre Wand in a fight broadcast on Showtime from St. Lucia.

"It’s great to have Roger and David both fighting on the same card. They both really need to win their fights. They have both gotten some great world wide exposure with their last fights and there is so much on the line for them," Halquist said. "The Northwest fight fans have backed both David and Roger throughout their careers and to have them come back and fight in the northwest is fantastic."

The card will also feature a 10 round main event featuring another fighter coming off a Nationally Televised loss, Anthony Mora, 15-2 (10), who faces Ramón Montaro, 16-5 (1), in a super lightweight showdown. "This fight is a promoter’s dream fight; you have three fighters coming off nationally televised losses; boxers who are fighting for their careers, fighting to show they deserve another shot. A loss may not be devastating but none of these guy’s can really afford to lose, there is so much on the line. A promoter’s dream fight is a fans fight and the Northwest Boxing fans should be delighted with this show," Halquist stated.

Battle at the Boat 69 is presented by The Emerald Queen Casino and promoted by Brian Halquist Productions. Tickets are $75-$40-$20 and available at all Ticketmaster locations, by phone (253) 627-8497 (Tacoma) (206) 628-0888 (Seattle) and the Emerald Queen Casino Box Office. First bout begins at 7:30PM.
