The Gamboa mania continues! In his second appearance on HBO’s Boxing After Dark, Yuriorkis Gamboa once more thrilled the audience with a spectacular knockout victory over previously unbeaten Marcos Ramirez, now 25-1 (16).
“El Ciclon de Guantanamo” was knocked down by an elbow shot in the first round. Gamboa recovered quickly and came back to overwhelm Ramirez with his enormous speed and irresistible power, sending his opponent to the canvas with a stunning uppercut before finishing him off after 1:41 minute in the second.
“I was not really hurt by the knockdown”, said Gamboa after the fight. “I knew that I would beat Ramirez. I feel great and I want to go on to become champion of the world.”
It was Gamboa’s 12th win in his 12th pro fight, including 10 knockouts. “El Ciclon” was rated on #3 WBA, #4 WBC and #5 WBO in the world rankings before the fight. Now a title shot could be next.
“We are already negotiating with different world champions”, states promoter Ahmet Öner. “Fact is that HBO wants to go on with Gamboa. I am pretty sure that we will agree on a date and opponent soon. Yuri is just incredible. He is without a doubt the most exciting prospect in the sport; the people just love his spectacular style. And we all want to see him go for a title.”
