Round by Round: Carlos Quintana-Nurhan Suleyman.

By Jim Cawkwell February 25th, 2005 All Round by Round

The prelude to the main event of the Friday Night Fights card in Oklahoma featured undefeated welterweight Carlos Quintana in against Nurhan Suleyman. Quintana was touted as a good prospect before a contractual dispute with former promoter Don King had him sidelined for a considerable stretch of his career. Read on to find what happened as Quintana looked to extend his undefeated streak against the tough Suleyman.

Round one: Quintana is a southpaw and has good success with quick, multiple jabs. Quintana does well in setting up his straight left which looks like it has some power to it. Suleyman stays in the centre of the ring, being circled by Quintana who clocks him with a good straight left hand. Quintana is using a lot of good movement, using the ring and staying out of the way while landing some of his own good punches.

Round two: Suleyman looks like he does not know how to deal with the southpaw style at all. Quintana continues to dominate from his right jab. Suleyman lands a decent right hand that does not seem to bother Quintana. Suleyman tries to follow up but cannot catch up with Quintana to make it happen.

Round three: The action is intense but very little clean work is getting through from either man in the early part of the round. Suleyman pins Quintana to the ropes for once and gets in some right hands. Quintana comes back well and they trade some good shots towards the end of the round.

Round four: The action opens up very well here as Quintana elects to stand and trade punches with Suleyman. This spells trouble for Suleyman as he starts to get nailed with a lot of powerful straight left hands. Quintana shows that he can move and be effective and stand and be even more effective. Suleyman has to eat more straight left hands and it is not long before he is on the canvas. Suleyman gets up but Quintana goes in for the kill, backing Suleyman up with a barrage of heavy punches that prompt the referee to stop the fight.

Quintana wins by fourth round technical knockout.
