There was a bit of action here in the states last night with Mexican teenager Saul Alvarez taking center stage at the Miccosukee Resort in Miami, Florida.

18 year old Alvarez, 23-0-1 (16), retained his WBA Fedcentro Welterweight crown in impressive fashion by finishing the challenge of Colombian KO artist Raul Pinzon, 16-2 (15), in the very first round.

The Juanacatlan based youngster has enjoyed a tremendous 2008, winning all eight of his contests and continuing to show impressive promise on the road to bigger and better things.

On the undercard, southpaw super feather Leon Bobo, 18-2 (2), of St. Louis won a tough split decision against local man Orlando Gonzalez, 12-2-1 (3), in a six rounder.

There were two fight cards in the Philadelphia area with undefeated welterweight Mike Jones, 16-0 (14), getting another stoppage victory with a third round TKO of hard punching Chicago man Luciano Perez, 16-9-1 (14), and light welter prospect Rock Allen, 14-0 (7), outpointing Dallas based Humberto Tapia, 13-9-1 (7), after eight rounds at the Sovereign Center in Reading.

The Legendary Blue Horizon in North Philly saw Israeli cruiserweight Ran Nakash, 16-0 (12), stay perfect with a seventh round stoppage of Harvey Jolly, 8-10-1 (4).

At the Blackham Coliseum In Lafayette, Louisiana, heavyweight Johnnie White moved to 21-0 (18) by crushing 40 year old opponent Greg White, 6-11 (4), in the first round.
