Beijing Olympian Tony Jeffries is looking forward to his first professional fight under new trainer Joe Gallagher. The Bronze Medallist has started training at Gallagher's new location, the Denton gym which was previously home to Billy ‘The Preacher’ Graham in suburban Manchester, England.
Jeffries joins British Lightweight Champion John Murray, his younger brother and promising prospect Joe Murray and new stablemate Matthew Macklin, the Irish Middleweight Champion.
Gallagher told SaddoBoxing today that Jeffries is settling in well and looking to make his pro-debut at the end of February/beginning of March.
John Murray makes the first defence of his British Lightweight title in Wigan next week when he faces Scottish boxer and WBU titlist Lee McAllister in a Hennessy Sports promoted fight night.
Murray has a perfect 25 win record while McAllister has 27 wins with just one loss. “John is absolutely ‘on fire’!” Joe Gallagher enthused. “He did ten rounds last night and we reckon he achieved 120-130 punches, so we’re very pleased with him, we’re just wary that he doesn’t peak too early.
“Joe Murray is just waiting to get a promoter sorted before he can get a fight. And we’ve got Matthew Macklin now, he is looking to fight on the 14th of March. They’re all doing great. We’re very excited and really looking forward to a great year in 2009!”
