Jeff Lacy's determination to retain his IBF super middleweight championship was evident tonight as he pounded challenger Rubin Williams into defeat in seven rounds. Lacy was the overwhelming aggressor for much of the fight but Williams surprised the attending crowd with some good work of his own. Lacy regained his momentum before the halfway point of the fight however, and thoroughly took over, dominating Williams before forcing a referee's stoppage.
The stoppage was a welcome one for Lacy as he disappointed somewhat in his last defense by allowing Omar Sheika to stay the distance. A possibility of unification fights in the muddled super middleweight division remain a possibility and Lacy is beginning to gather recognition as the one fighter that might unify the weight once and for all.
