Heavyweights Sam ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ Peter and ‘Fast Eddie’ Chambers met with members of the media on Thursday, February 19 in Los Angeles as their upcoming bout on March 27 was announced.

Both fighters have recent losses they feel need accounting for, and will be looking for redemption at the Nokia Theater L.A. Live in the downtown LA venue’s first fight event, scheduled to air on ESPN Friday Night Fights at 10:00 pm ET/7:00 pm PT.

Heavyweight ‘Fast Eddie’ Chambers’ trainer Rob Murray Sr. has worked with the 26 year old Chambers since the heavyweight was 19 and sees the upcoming fight against Peter on March 27 as, “A mission, with a no-fail value, no fail in it whatsoever.”

‘Fast Eddie’, 33-1 (18), from Pittsburgh, PA., fought 17 straight times at the legendary Blue Horizon in Philadelphia before appearing on a Goossen-Tutor promoted show in Reno, NV in 2006 and is currently ranked #3 by the IBF.

“He has tremendous heart, mindset, tremendous loyalty, he understands what happens in the ring and outside the ring,” Murray said of Chambers, who lost to Alexander Povetkin in January, 2008 in the finals of the IBF Eliminator in Germany before making a comeback with a unanimous victory over Cisse Salif this past December in California.

Peter’s promoter Dino Duva calls it a crossroads fight for both boxers. “Anything short of looking sensational is not acceptable at this point,” he said, underscoring Murray’s remarks.

Peter, 30-2 (23), lost to Vitali Klitschko in Berlin, Germany in October, 2008. In 2007, Peter scored back to back wins against highly regarded veteran James ‘Lights Out’ Toney.

Before the loss to Vitali, Peter won six fights in a row, with his only prior loss being to Vitali’s brother, Wladimir in 2005.

The 28 year old, ranked #5 by the IBF, WBO and WBC, is co-trained by Manny Massom and Shadeed Suluki.

Goossen-Tutor Promotions will present the marquee night of boxing and the Chambers vs. Peters heavyweight bout is being promoted in association with Duva Boxing.

“This is undoubtedly the biggest and most anticipated heavyweight fight that does not have a world title attached to it,” said promoter Dan Goossen. “But the winner of this bout will once again be earning their right to fight for the prestigious World Heavyweight Championship.”

The event will be televised on ESPN Friday Night Fights from Los Angeles’ new Nokia Theater L.A. Live in the downtown area, across from Staples Center.

“We’re excited by the opportunity to produce and televise this inaugural boxing telecast from AEG’s state of the art Nokia Theater,” said ESPN’s Doug
Loughrey.
