Friday night in Mexico City, Mexico, a new title reign began in the light flyweight division as former Jose Aguirre lost his cavant WBC title bid to fellow challenger Eric Ortiz. The fight was stopped in the seventh round of a scheduled twelve by referee Gelasio Perez as Ortiz battered Aguirre to defeat. With the win, new champion Ortiz boasts a new record of twenty-four wins against four losses and a draw while Aguirre falls to a record of thirty-three win, three losses and a draw.
Earlier in the day across in England, Matthew Hatton won a six round decision over Francis Jones. As detailed in an earlier interview with Hatton on this site, Jones once held Hatton to a draw. Hatton made sure of the win this time. With the win, Hatton moves his record to twenty-three wins against two losses and a draw, and continues his progress as one of England's most promising light middleweights.
