From the office of WBC President José Sulaimán:
World Boxing Council President Jose Sulaiman and all the members of the WBC Executive Offices joined the Mexican people and attended the lying in state mass that was officiated at the Shrine of Guadalupe, where Raul “Raton” Macias said goodbye to his beloved Virgin of Guadalupe in her own home.
The WBC recommends that all Mexican promoters kindly ring the bell 10 times, in every single fight that is held as of today, and the WBC is also asking all ring officials to wear a black ribbon as a homage to Raul Macias.
Today has been declared a day of national mourning due to the passing away of the greatest sportsperson Mexico has had in its history.
Raul “Raton” (Mouse) Macias, idol of grandmothers, of the President; a fighter who came out of the core of the Mexican people itself. The idol of businessmen too, and idol of all Mexicans from border to border and from coast to coast, left as an example for Mexican young people the fact of having been an honorable, upright, clean, and honest champion in addition to being a passionate patriot, in the ring as well as in his private life.
Not until March 23, when it was the 52nd anniversary of his being married to his wife, Mrs. Yolanda Calderon, did he want to leave this world.
May his soul rest in peace!!
