Ex-professional boxer and former Commonwealth Champion Scott Dixon has asked the Malta Boxing Federation to issue a statement on his behalf.
Mr. Dixon denies that there is any truth whatsoever in rumors of a comeback into competitive boxing whether this is on the local or international scene.
Dixon, along with his partner Mr. Steve Abela, is in the process of setting up his own gym to further his carrier as a personal trainer. Some weeks ago he also set up his own boxing club, “St Julian’s Amateur Boxing Club”, which is fully affiliated to the Malta Boxing Federation.
"Boxing has been good to me and now I feel that it is time to put something back into the sport," said Dixon. "Boxing can be an important part of youth education, discipline and general well being.
"My advice to Maltese youth wishing to take up the sport of boxing is to do this through the local MBF, as the only way forward for Maltese boxing is through AIBA boxing.
"Looking back one of my biggest regrets is not having stayed in the amateur ranks for a few more years; because I turned pro so early in life I missed the chance to represent Great Britain in the Olympic Games .
"The local MBF which is the Malta’s representative of the AIBA is doing a great job of organizing local boxing under the AIBA banner. At last Maltese Boxing Athletes have the opportunity to practice the sport in a safe and regulated manner".
