While preparing for his April 17 “ShoBox” WBC semi-final eliminator against Said Ouali, Arena Boxing's “Mini-Tyson”, Selcuk Aydin, was pleasantly surprised to meet “Iron” Mike Tyson who dropped by as visitor in Aydin’s training camp in Las Vegas.
“This is only my second time in America and I already shook the hand of one of boxing’s biggest icons”, states Aydin.
“Tyson got a very impressive presence. You can feel his charisma. It’s a big motivation to meet people who have achieved that much in boxing. I hope that in twenty years from now I will be able to stop by in some gym to watch a ‘Mini-Selcuk’ prepare for an important fight.”
Aydin will give his US debut against strong southpaw Ouali. “He is a tough opponent”, says Aydin. “And I will not underestimate him. But I want to fight for the world title and there are no easy opponents on the way to the top.”
The appearance of former undisputed heavyweight king Tyson at the Arena training camp started some rumours about Tyson’s near future.
Arena CEO Ahmet Öner: “If ‘Iron Mike’ considers a comeback all I can say is that we would welcome him with open arms. It would be an honour to present a superstar like him in Germany or anywhere in the world.”
For the moment the promoter is focussing on the big ShoBox date on April 17. “We have Selcuk Aydin fighting in an elimination bout and Yuriorkis Gamboa vs. Jose Rojas for the WBA interim championship” says Öner.
“This is a huge show and a big and important step for a young company like Arena. Hopefully, we will be able to present more big shows like this in the near future.”
