On Saturday night at Club Sarmiento in Pigue, Argentina, the continent's top super feather prospect, Matias Daniel Ferreyra, once again failed to unseat South American Champion Roberto David Arrieta.
33 year old Arrieta, 33-14-4 (14), also the WBC Mundo Hispano Champ, decked Ferreyra twice before cruising to a wide points decision when the initially met two years ago but this time was pressed harder by the 26 year old challenger.
Nonetheless, Arrieta pulled out another points win on Saturday and remains the only fighter to have defeated the southpaw Ferreyra, 21-2 (7).
Also on Saturday in Argentina, WBA Fedelatin Lightweight Champ Oscar Jesus Pereyra, 17-1 (11), gained revenge on the only fighter to defeat him when he posted a points verdict over iron-chinned veteran Alejandro Daniel Gomez, 11-17-3 (3), at La Carlota in Cordoba.
The occasion marked the third time the pair have shared the ring, with Pereyra winning the first bout by six round decision in 2007 while Gomez prevailed on points last year for the vacant WBA Fedebol belt.
