Boxing In Germany: Moreno Defeats Sidorenko In Rematch

Wladimir Sidorenko waited a year to make his ring return following the loss of his WBA Bantamweight title and last night at Hall 7 in Bremen, Germany, the Ukrainian rematched the man who took his belt, Anselmo Moreno of Panama.

All went to plan in the first half of the bout for Sidorenko, who outworked Moreno and looked to have never taken a year off in this battle of light hitting southpaws.

But once the challenger began to slow down, Moreno took control, catching the aggressive Sidorenko on the way in and erasing the Ukrainian’s early lead.

Sidorenko was never able to recapture his early momentum and while the durable ex-champion kept it close, the scoring favored Moreno by split decision, 115-113 twice and 115-113 for Sidorenko, who lost the split decision.

Moreno retains his WBA crown for the third time and improves to 25-1-1 (8), while Sidorenko falls to 21-2-2 (7).

Boxing beauty and WBA/WIBF Female Featherweight Champion Ina Menzer, 17-1 (15), retained her dual titles for the fourth time by winning all ten rounds against American import Franchesca Alcanter, 18-9-1 (9).

Cruiserweight prospect Alexander Alexeev, 17-1 (15), returned from a failed bid to unseat Interim WBO titlist Victor Emilio Ramirez in January by outpointing America’s Max Alexander, 14-4-2 (2), over ten rounds.
