Boxing Result: Fragomeni Keeps WBC Title On Draw With Wlodarczyk

By Hermann Helmut May 17th, 2009 All Boxing Results

The WBC Cruiserweight title remained with Giacobbe Fragomeni tonight after 12 rounds of combat at the Gran Teatro in Rome, Italy with ex-IBF champ Krzysztof Wlodarczyk.

The champion started out strong, going after the taller Polish challenger and picking up rounds behind a good two-handed assault as Wlodarczyk gave ground and made Fragomeni expend a lot of energy.

The tactic paid off as the 39 year old Italian was spent after the midway point and Wlodarczyk turned the tide, punishing the weary champion.

By the ninth, Fragomeni was in bad shape and was decked twice by the oncoming challenger. During the second knockdown, Wlodarczyk was determined to have struck Fragomeni while he was down and this was crucial to the hopes of Wlodarczyk as the champion was given additional time and recovered well.

The bout continued but was more a two way street as Fragomeni got his second wind and the two slugged it out until the final bell.

The contest was declared a draw at 114-114, 114-113 and 112-116, allowing Fragomeni to keep his WBC title.

The man from Milan sees his record to 26-1-1 (10), and Wlodarczyk's mark now stands at 41-2-1 (31).
