Golden Boy Boxing Promotional Team Gets Through Busy Week

By Boxing Press May 22nd, 2009 All Press Releases

There is no rest for the Golden Boy Promotions team in or out of the ring this week, and the Floyd Mayweather vs. Juan Manuel Marquez international press tour is only the tip of the iceberg for the hardest working promotional team in the boxing business.

In addition to the press tour, which has already hit Los Angeles, New York and London, six of Golden Boy's finest will step into the ring this week for pivotal battles on their road to world championships.

Tonight, Thursday, May 21st, rising star Vicente Escobedo (20-1, 12 KOs) returns to the ring for the first time since his stirring ten round win over former World Champion Carlos Hernandez on April 4th, and he'll be looking to add the name of another former world champion to his resume when he takes on Kevin Kelley (60-9-2, 39 KOs) at Arco Arena in Sacramento.

Also in action on the same show will be unbeaten heavyweight prospect Ashanti "The Boss" Jordan (8-0, 7 KOs) in a six round fight against upset minded Alvaro Morales (3-4-5).

Tomorrow night, Friday, May 22nd, Cuban phenom Erislandy Lara (5-0, 3 KOs) will return to the ESPN2 airwaves for a tough Friday Night Fights bout against veteran Edwin Vazquez (22-13-2, 8 KOs) at the Fontainbleau Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida.

Saturday night, May 23rd, is just as busy for Golden Boy Promotions, as former World Bantamweight Champion Jhonny Gonzalez (40-6, 34 KOs) looks to become a title holder in a second weight class when he battles Toshiaki Nishioka (33-4-3, 20 KOs) for the WBC Super Bantamweight Championship at Arena Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico.

Gonzalez is currently riding a six fight winning streak that includes five straight knockouts.

Also on Saturday, at the Duke Energy Convention Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, unbeaten lightweight prospect Adrien Broner (9-0, 6 KOs) and 2008 United States Olympic Bronze Medalist Deontay Wilder (4-0, 4 KOs) both return to action in separate bouts.

Broner sees action in a six round bout against an opponent to be determined while Wilder faces 22-fight veteran Charles Brown in a four round affair.

Mixed in amongst the fights and press tour, this week, tickets go on sale for three big upcoming Golden Boy Promotions events:

Today, May 21st, tickets for the June 27th World Championship doubleheader at Staples Center in Los Angeles featuring "Vicious" Victor Ortiz vs. Marcos Maidana and the much anticipated rematch of Chris John and Rocky Juarez went on sale.

Priced at $200, $100, $75, $50 and $25, tickets may be purchased by calling Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000 or visiting www.ticketmaster.com

Tickets will be available to purchase at Staples Center Box Office on Friday, May 22nd at 10am PT

Tickets for Mayweather vs. Marquez go on sale on Friday, May 22nd at 10am PT. Priced at $1,000, $750, $600, $300 and $150, not including applicable service charges, can be obtained by calling Ticketmaster at (800)745-3000. Tickets also are available for purchase at www.mgmgrand.com or www.ticketmaster.com .

Also going on sale on Friday, May 22nd at 10am PT will be tickets for Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero's ESPN's "Friday Night Fights" June 12th battle against Johnnie Edwards at the HP Pavilion at San Jose, California. Tickets, priced at $100, $75, $50 and $25 will be available at the HP Pavilion Ticket Office, all Ticketmaster locations, by phone at 800-745-3000 or online at www.ticketmaster.com.

Six fighters, four shows, one mega-fight press tour, seven cities, three countries and all spanning eight time zones...it's all in a week's work.
