GYM Boxing: Diaconu vs. Pascal For WBC Title June 19 In Montreal

By Boxing Press May 25th, 2009 All Press Releases

The province of Quebec is buzzing, eagerly anticipating the historical World Title bout that will take place exactly 4 weeks from today, on June 19th 2009, at the Montreal Bell Centre.

Two local boxers will slug it out for much more than just bragging rights when Montrealer Adrian Diaconu (25-0-0, 15KO) defends his WBC World 175 pound title against Jean Pascal (22-1-0, 15KO) from Laval.

This Gala went from local to international almost overnight, as GYM and InterBox proudly announce that the popular American television network “Versus” has acquired the broadcast rights for its large United States audience.

Versus is a premier television channel owned by Comcast that broadcasts sports throughout the United States. Versus covers several major sports including NHL Hockey, Indy Car, College Football, Tour de France and Boxing.

In addition to what will surely be an exciting Main Event bout, organizers hereby confirm the participation of popular Ontario boxer and winner of the latest “Contenders” tournament, Troy Ross (21-1-0, 15KO) in the evening’s semi final bout.

Ross had an outstanding Amateur boxing career. He represented Canada at two Olympic Games (Atlanta in 1996 and Sydney in 2000). Fresh off a small break after his Contenders victory, and armed with 9 consecutive victories (7 by way of knockout), Ross is now ready to conquer the boxing world.

This incredible talent is co-promoted by GYM and “Tournament of the Contenders”. His opponent for June 19th will be announced next week.

“The addition of Ross to the card will contribute greatly to the international flavor of this historic boxing event. I am thrilled that boxing fans at the Bell Centre and across the globe will have the opportunity to witness his exceptional talents. Ross may very well rule the Cruiserweight division in the not so distant future” states Yvon Michel.

There is strong demand for tickets to the Diaconu/Pascal World title bout/Gala, so do not miss out! Tickets are available at the Bell Centre box office by calling 514-790-2525, 1-877-668-8269, or by visiting www.geg.ca
