Former IBF Intercontinental light welterweight champion Peter Semo (19-4, 14 KOs) has pulled out of Risum Boxing and Brian Mathiasen Boxing’s Fightnight Horsens show on June 19 in Horsens, Denmark.
Semo has sustained an arm-injury, and will be replaced by another Sweden-based Ugandan, undefeated reigning African lightweight champion Sam “Rocky” Rukundo (13-0-1, 6 KOs), who is appearing for the third time on a Risum Boxing promotion in Denmark.
“It was very bad news for us that Peter had to pull out, but of course it is understandable when he doesn’t feel as if he will be able to train proper ly up to the fight. However, since Sam has agreed to step in, I believe we have just as good an attraction lined up for the show instead, and we are thrilled that this solution is possible”, said Henrik Risum.
Rukundo, who represented Uganda in the 2004 Olympics (reaching the quarter finals), turned professional later that year in England, and has since won the British Masters lightweight title, the UBO light welterweight title, and the ABU (WBC African) lightweight title. He last boxed in January of this year, where he stopped undefeated Kenyan Peter Oluoch in a defence of the ABU crown.
Fightnight Horsens is headlined by Kim Poulsen vs. Obote “The Thunder” Ameme for the UBO Intercontinental lightweight championship. Also on the seven-bout card will be a super middleweight clash between Fawaz Nasir (13-3, 8 KOs) and Ruslans Pojonisevs< /b> (5-3-1, 4 KOs) from Latvia.
