Last night, at Liverpool’s Olympia – VIP Promotions and Vaughan Boxing presented a seven card Bill which headlined the vacant British Masters Light-Middleweight Title bout between Steve Harkin of Liverpool and Lyndon Newman of Denton, Manchester.

Steve Harkin (Liverpool) v Lyndon Newman (Denton)
10 x 3 Light-Middleweight Contest

Vacant British Masters Light-Middleweight Title

Newman entered the ring alongside a number of soldiers. They were presented with signed boxing gloves as yesterday was ‘Armed Forces Day’.

Steely-faced Harkin entered the ring to big support from the local crowd.

It was a fast-paced all-action contest between these two. Harkin sustained a cut to the bridge of the nose in the fifth round (it looked to have a mark on it before he entered the ring so maybe it was an old injury that re-opened) He was ‘wobbled’ in the sixth round and sustained a cut to the left eye. This seemed to bother him and the seventh round saw the cut spurt blood – his face now awash with the red stuff.

Both men fired off shots till the final bell with Harkin securing the points win 97-93 to win the belt. He improves to 6 wins (1 by KO) 3 losses (1 by KO) and 2 draws.

Newman’s record now stands at 4 wins (1 by KO) 2 losses (1 by KO) and 1 draw.

Kenny Anderson (Edinburgh) v Ruslans Pojonisevs (Latvia)
6 x 3 Super-Middleweight Contest

Stony-faced Anderson kept up a good work rate from the off – looking the much classier boxer. Pojonisevs was on the canvas in the fourth round but stuck it out to the end with Anderson securing a 60-53 points win

Anderson improves to 17 wins (12 by KO) 1 loss (1 by KO)

Pojonisevs drops to 13 wins (10 by KO) 21 losses (5 by KO) and 1 draw.

Courtney Fry (Liverpool) v Carl Wild (Sheffield)
6 x 3 Cruiserweight Contest

Fry gets the points win 60-53 and improves to 17 wins (6 by KO) 3 losses (1 by KO).

Wild drops to 12 wins (1 by KO) 17 losses (5 by KO) and 5 draws.

Jake Smith (Liverpool) v Graham Fearn (York)
4 x 3 Lightweight Contest

Fearn had to endure some decent body-punches from Smith in the third round then was wobbled by headshots in the fourth. Despite the very unsteady legs – Fearn kept upright and the contest went to points. Smith wins on points 40-37 to notch up his third pro-win on points.

Fearn drops to 5 wins (1 by KO) 12 losses (2 by KO) and 2 draws.

Tom Carus (Liverpool) v Johnny Greaves (East Ham)
4 x 3 Light-Welterweight Contest

Carus got the points win against the usually awkward (and entertaining) Greaves! Although Greaves (in my opinion) should have been reprimanded or docked a point for kicking the ringside hoarding at Photographers! His corner told him to ‘smarten up and focus’ but the fight got scrappy in the latter rounds.

Popular Carus gets the points win 40-36 to get his third pro-win

Greaves’ record now stands at 3 wins (1 by KO) 85 losses (10 by KO)

Ryan Farrag (Liverpool) v Ian Bailey (Slough)
6 x 3 Bantamweight Contest

It was a confident performance from Farrag although Bailey was a good opponent and the two were pretty evenly matched. Farrag was under pressure in the closing seconds of round three but there was lots of action throughout with Farrag going for the uppercuts. Farrag gets the points win 58-56

Farrag improves to 7 wins 1 loss while Bailey drops to 7 wins 11 losses (2 by KO)

Wayne Adeniyi (Birkenhead) v Phil Goodwin (Hull)
6 x 2 Light Heavyweight Contest

Goodwin was made to wait for the arrival of Adeniyi who waited in the wings warming up for what seemed like several minutes (!)

Adeniyi gets the points win 60-55 and improves to 3 wins no losses.

Goodwin drops to 6 wins (2 by KO) 12 losses (4 by KO)

  • Chris Billam-Smith vs Ryan Rozicki 03/06/2026
Chris Billam Smith fighting for Zuffa for the first time this Saturday. I think he is being set up to face Jai Opetia later in the contract. CBS became world champion when more talented British boxers like Okole and Riakporhe did not. In fact he beat both and forced them to go up to heavyweight. Chris got easily beaten by Zurdo in a unification and we all kn […]

  • Where does Usyk go from here? 27/05/2026
For once, I’m totally on board with the WBC. WBC moves to shut down Usyk-Verhoeven rematch talk I personally have NO wish to see a rematch between Rico and Usyk. Call it defensiveness of our sport. Just like I thought Fury’s narrow escape against Ngannou was cringeworthy… I also feel a sense of dread that we came “this close” to having a kickboxer defeat the […]

  • Why was Usyk so bad? 27/05/2026
What was the major factor for Usyk to perform so poorly against Rico? Rico better than expected, skilled kick boxer, huge size, awkward style, surprise element? Age of Usyk finally showing up? Weight Usyk was too heavy? Usyk not taking the fight seriously? Ukraine war on his mind? 7 posts - 5 participants Read full topic […]

  • Jai Opetaia saying what many of us think 26/05/2026
Jai Opetaia Says Boxing Rewards Talk More Than Skill This has long been a thought of mine, but of course it’s always refreshing when an actual boxer says it. Jai is obviously considered by most to be the top dog at cruiser, a division which unfortunately lacks the big names. Surely avoided by many. It could be speculated that at some point Jai could follow t […]
