Boxing Update: Mack Demolishes Abron, Calls Out World Champs

ByBoxing Press 03/06/200912/05/2013

Fresh off his demolition job of former NABO and WBO title challenger DeAndrey Abron, Yusef Mack now feels he is ready for anyone in the division.

He has now chalked up 5 impressive wins which include 3 by stoppage and now is quickly becoming recognised as one of the top challengers at light heavyweight.

“I will fight anyone, I feel I am the best in the division and with my team behind me I am unbeatable, first on my list would be Chad Dawson,” said Mack.

“He is obviously currently regarded as the best and that is the spot I want, title or not Dawson would be my first pick, it looks like he will now fight Johnson so I might have to wait and get the winner.

“In order to get that fight I guess I would need to pick up a title to make me more marketable, Tavouris Cloud for the vacant IBF would be good, the kid is good but fought nobody, I would show him a new level, Zsolt Erdei in my opinion is the weakest champion in any division, the guy is a blown up middleweight, he has been carried through defence after defence, he needs to step up and fight someone and if I have to go to Germany to take it from him so be it, I would knock him out.

“Hugo Garay, the guy only has the WBA belt because Danny Green vacated it, he is not good enough to be wearing it, he lost before every time he stepped up in class, then he was gifted the belt as Danny retired, again come on step up.

“Adrian Diaconu, I am the current NABF champion so he should fight me, he is wasting his time trying to line up a fight with Slivio Branco, firsly how is Branco ranked number 1 in the WBC? The guy had his shot losing to Stripe Drews for the WBA, then fought 3 tin cans and now he is the number one challenger, come on.

“The guy is like 50 years old and has 9 losses, his last 3 opponents have 26 losses between them. Come on WBC sort it out I beat Chris Henry who was your number 4 I want that green belt, I promised it to my trainer when we first got together, so come on Adrian let’s get it on.

“Bernard Hopkins called me 8 months ago telling me I had to prove myself again, before I would ever get a shot, so how about two Philly fighters battling it out, you still don’t think I have proved myself well come on, me and you in Philly, let’s give them something back I can retire you and then move on and get my belt.

“As I have said I fear no one, I have the best trainer, the best managers, the best promoter and that gives me the best team, team Mack. It is only a matter of time before I get to you guys so let’s not waste any more time and let these fights happen.

Chris Billam Smith fighting for Zuffa for the first time this Saturday. I think he is being set up to face Jai Opetia later in the contract. CBS became world champion when more talented British boxers like Okole and Riakporhe did not. In fact he beat both and forced them to go up to heavyweight. Chris got easily beaten by Zurdo in a unification and we all kn […]

  • Where does Usyk go from here? 27/05/2026
For once, I’m totally on board with the WBC. WBC moves to shut down Usyk-Verhoeven rematch talk I personally have NO wish to see a rematch between Rico and Usyk. Call it defensiveness of our sport. Just like I thought Fury’s narrow escape against Ngannou was cringeworthy… I also feel a sense of dread that we came “this close” to having a kickboxer defeat the […]
