Green was out before he hit the canvas. Made no attempt to keep his head from whiplashing. Could have died.

Only Sugar Ray Leonard came close to Mohamed Ali. For me they are both legends.

Dave Green was only joking when he said he trip. He and Suger Ray remain good friends to this day. Green once said he would never defeat Ray if they fought for the next 25 years. SRL was the most talented fighter ever. Sugar Ray Robinson was the greatest on achievement though.

leornard was the best pound for pound fighter of them all from welterweight up to middleweight he could box punch and had a big heart as well one of the true all time greats.

Sugar Ray Leonard ... ( 4 months ago by therushconcert)
Sugar Ray Leonard was not pound for pound the best fighter ever. Roberto Duran couldn't have move up and beaten Sugar Ray Robinson in a million years. Ray Robinson is the best pound for pound of all time.

Best during his era? Yes. Best of all time? You're either such a lover of Ray you can't be objective or really don't know boxing history. And I LOVED Ray Leonard.
Leonard was great. ... ( 3 months ago by schmoop14)
Leonard was great. Robinson was the best. He didn't lose as a welterweight, suffering his first loss to middleweight Jake LaMotta in his 40th fight. Power in both hands, speed, great finisher, fantastic boxing ability, but could take his power up to middleweight even as he was already 130 fights into his pro career. My family and I loved us some Leonard since seeing him live at the '76 Olympics, but Robinson was ridiculous.

I rememberf watching this fight live on ABC and listening to the pre-fight show. In an interview with Davey Green before the fight he claimed to have had a "secret weapon" that he was going to use to beat Ray....we never got a chance to see it.

If Robinson could lose to Lamotta and Basilio, I'd say Duran who was twice as goos as either those two would have a very good chance against him.
No one was a bigger ... ( 2 months ago by therushconcert)
No one was a bigger fan of Duran than I was. However, Robinson was a welterweight who moved up to middleweight to fight guys like Lamotta, who he defeated convincingly in another fight. My comment, and I stand by it, is that Leonard is not the best pound for pound fighter of all time, Robinson is. Robinson won his first eighty something fights and fought more than two hundred times. Even after moving up in weight he still had knockout power, Even Leonard said Robinson was the best.
Duran would have ... ( 2 months ago by tehmode)
Duran would have been better than anyone Robinson ever faced. As a welterweight, SRR was at his peak, but still tested against mighty competition like Kid Gavilan. If Duran could give Hagler, who was a better middleweight than Robinson, problems, he'd definately have a chance against Robinson. I'm not saying he'd win. But it's no blowout.
Gavilan was just as ... ( 2 months ago by Mowglieboy69)
Gavilan was just as good a Welterweight as Duran, who was at his peak at Lightweight.
