Cohen and Antony, both so beautifully unique and wonderful singers.

Have just had a virus and been totally deaf for 18 days. Now, slowly recovering, I have just heard this song - the impact of its soul and beauty has blown me away back into life and music. It has meant so much to me.

Cohen is a genius to have written this, but his rendition is so flat. Antony displays his own soul in this song, His phrasing is so much more interesting, his feelings so much more real. I can turn off the computer, but I can't stop hearing and feeling the song.

I love Cohen and have heard so many covers of his work, and some are great, but Antony with this beats them all, Such a sensitivity à fleur de peau when he sings it

he is one of those performers who can just rest on laurels (sp?) because he is really talented but not "mainstream". It's a good place to find oneself as a musician. Sonic Youth is another band like this. Just content with being cool interesting but not on the cover of Rolling Stone.

He has been blessed with the most beautiful and haunting voice

  21. Nov 6, 2009 at 06:35 PM by elpjuni

Magic! One of the most soulful voices ever

I could not agree more, and I mis-implied that somehow Antony was rudderless. When I am taken with a musician and his/her music I can't help feeling curious, but I had not intended to sound cynical or impugn his or anyone's musicianship. In fact, I think he has a very high standard of muscianship. I also think that achievement isn't filling stadiums. However, I also think art needs an audience.

I think they aspire to what every musician aspires to: getting better and more capable while not having to do anything but music all day. What that looks like is different for everyone, and it's a fallacy of the 20th century that that involves filling a stadium. Just my $.02.
