Joe Louis was at ... ( 5 months ago by hendrix1)
Joe Louis was at his best in 1938.Not 1951.There is no way ROck beats Louis of 1938.ROck caught Louis at the end of his career.Samething he did to Walcott and all of his top tier opponents. They were old and used up.That is just Louis' style to say ROck beats him in prime. I doubt that very much.I take those statements with a grain of sand.Just like Ali saying he would lose to Tyson.Total bs.
Can't we just say , ... ( 5 months ago by thesepipesRclean)
Can't we just say , Marciano was the greatest of his era ? Why make ridiculous comparisons of him against huge heavyweights of the modern era ? Klitschko 6 ft 6 in 245 Marciano 5 ft 11 190 !! They would not even sanction that , it would be a 1 round massacre . If you think Rocky could KO Lenox Lewis or Foreman , you are insane or just racist ! Marciano great pound for pound , not a heavyweight by todays standards !

FICTITIOUS FIGHT FANTASIES
Marciano would have adapted to current trends & could easily have fought at 220lbs+.
When you make these impossible cross-era comparisons you have to take stock of a whole range of variables including the bout's timezone. Bear in mind the fundamental incoherence of our imaginary fights, which are both logical & chronological impossibilities.
So we're not even speculating about a possible fact, since there is no fact of the matter to speculate about. But fun...
Hey Hendrix...you ... ( 5 months ago by jcashtbo)
Hey Hendrix...you also forgot to add that Ali rethought his statement on the Arsenio show, and said that if he could stay away, stick and move he could win, but if he got hit with a really good shot by Tyson it would put him out.

Hey thesepipesR...have you ever heard the phrase,"He who smelt it dealt it"? Same usually goes for racism...the one who brings it up in this day and age is usually the true racist.
Big giants with ... ( 5 months ago by killpolitics)
Big giants with soft chins (thesepipes)? Willard & Carnera were destroyed despite enormous height & weight advantages & so-called expert opinion.
The fight game doesn't work like that - or at least it didn't prior to ball inflation by drugs. You can't measure a fighter's balls in terms of height & weight.
A man like Galento was like a joke in the ring. But he had real fighter's instinct, was able to floor Louis & stood up to early KO punches from Joe. That's all gone now.
Actually your balls ... ( 5 months ago by thesepipesRclean)
Actually your balls shrink when you do steroids they don't inflate ! lol There comes a point where a punch has sufficient power to KO any human being . Some fighters puches cannot be withstood . If you watch fight science on National Geographic they showed Bas Rutten cause 55 mm of chest compression with one kick ! This could be fatal . He also threw a punch with 3 times the force to cause a concussion ! He knocked out several opponents with slap in his Pancrease career .
I bring that up to ... ( 5 months ago by thesepipesRclean)
I bring that up to say weak chin is sometimes over used . If Foreman nails you and you fall it just means you are human . I don't think it is fair when a guy gets dropped by a 245 pound man and someone says he has a glass jaw !
1. For balls read " ... ( 5 months ago by killpolitics)
1. For balls read "courage & heart"
2. The most common error in predicting big puncher outcomes is to assume a stationary target at the other end. Rock had tremendously underrated defense & slipped punches. See Youtube vid "Marciano's underrated defense".
kill your right.. ... ( 5 months ago by 69chevy68)
kill your right..the more i watch rock the better his defense is..he slipped punches very well and was harder to hit than most casual observers notice.
True, Chev. Also, ... ( 5 months ago by killpolitics)
True, Chev. Also, in the face of Rock's height & reach disadvantages critics, consider what a blown-up Tua was able to do at 5'9" & similar reach. Modelled himself on Rock & Frazier and was a real rhinoceros.

marciano is underrated and thats bullshit, he was the best of all time not ali. marciano would of broke his arms with that brutl punching power!

marciano beat joe ... ( 4 months ago by nastylefthook1)
marciano beat joe louis when joe louis was at the height of his career,,,joe louis fought at his heaviest weight,,,had almost 20 years of experience and was highly motivated for the fight,,,,maricano was just better than louis,,
you're right Nasty ... ( 4 months ago by hendrix1)
you're right Nasty again. You really know your boxing.Louis was at his best when he fought Marciano. His trainer Blackburn was dead and Manager was in jail.He was so poor that he trained in his backyard with his young son.He was so poor he couldn't afford a trainer or gym.He had lost all the power in right hand.He had lost all of his speed and reflex's.He was 37 and 10 months.Man do you know your boxing..
Walcott was at his ... ( 4 months ago by hendrix1)
Walcott was at his best also at 38.Though he had lost most of his speed and his reflex'
s were also shot.ROck caught all the greats in their primes ,including Moore who was a young 42...

hendrix,,i certainly wouldnt say joe louis the same fighter who beat max schmeling,,just a different fighter,,you gain much with years of experience,,pacing, cutey stuff, ability to take a punch,,,joe louis beat jersey joe in 47 and 48,,came back to win 8 of 9 bouts in 50/51,,only loss to ezzard charles in close decision loss,,,joe louis was still formidible at 38,,remember duran beat barkley at 38,,,would you say duran was shot,,,give the rock his due,,he beat a great champion

watch tapes of joe louis at 38 and joe louis in his 20's and ask yourself if he was the same fighter.
klc899,,,joe was a ... ( 4 months ago by nastylefthook1)
klc899,,,joe was a much better fighter in his 20,s but you do learn to adapt to your failing physical skills with experience,,you become a more relaxed fighter,,you see things better ,you learn to relax in the ring,,things slow down for the experienced fighter,,you get by with angles and knowing when to rest and when to hold,,ali was a good example of this ,watch his fights in the 70,s ,he was all smoke and mirrors, not the ali of 62/67
