DON'T EVER.....trust the "parking brake" in these early 60s Chryslers. As you know there is no "park function" on the automatic transmission. You just depress the "parking brake" which expands brake shoes against the drum on the drive shaft......not a good design. I owned one of these for 5 years .....a friend of mine had one too years earlier. We both had some close calls with the Parking Brake not holding.....especially when parked with the rear of the car facing down.
real nice my bro has 1 just like it
Way cool! Brings back some great memories. My dad had a 62 Newport Ex- California Highway Patrol with the 383 police package. I still dream of having that car back. Thanks for sharing

I love the car your rolling in my little bro has a 73 and he has it on 20in spoked rims and the engine is done right up they are a rolling living room and a head turner keep your forever and hand it down through the generations.
This is a great video, it makes me miss my '65 New Yorker that was a hand-me-down in my junior and senior years, 1980-1982.
This was the car I had in high school! No levers off the steering column, and both sides were symmetric - 5 push button transmission buttons on the left (R,N,D,2,1) corresponded to the heater buttons on the right (off, vent, heat, mix, defrost). The temperature control slider underneath the heat buttons matched the turn signal lever on the left under the transmission buttons. The instrument panel was solid state electroluminescent.

Hey Brett, sure is nice to that car again. I lost your email, drop me a line I just put a 500 horse 460 in my Torino.
Hi-- Thanks for your comments. This was the Astradome dash used on Chryslers in 60, 61 and 62. All gauges sit under a plastic bubble in a 3-tier configuration. Beautiful at night because the letters and numbers light up in a soft green blue light with the pointers lighting up in bright orange. It makes for glare free lighting because it does not use back lighting like all other dashes of this time. Still considered one of the most innovative dashes created in its time and now.
I like the dash-mounted rear view mirror. Are those gauges on the dash as well?
oh man- perfect music on the radio for this clip...
