this must have been before Napoleon Murphy Brock joined. he was a legend
wonderful!
Funny, on the repeat, they actually do it WAY better!
haha he was mad at his band for fucking up...he made em do it again, all of them rolled their eyes i bet
Frank Zappa - Enough said!
Tee Hee! He showed everybody that the band wasn't just messing around on random notes!!
I totally disagree about the Bongo Fury version. I think it stands on it's own in its own peculiar way. I love the timbre of the piano in that peice...and the funny vocal noises back in the mix during "that it was craazy..."
Frank Zappa was a great musicien. I will never forget him.
"Imaginary Diseases" album also has instrumental version of "Cucamonga", played as the coda to "Farther O'Blivion" suite. There the tempo is bit different and the melody is rendered by the large brass section. I totally agree about the BF version, FZ took what was a great theme and turned it into a throwaway piece, a "One Size Fits All" reject if you will.
Didn't know that tune was originally instrumental... much better than the Bongo Fury version IMO. If that isn't beautiful music, I don't know what it is. Great concert, great finale. Thanks for posting this!
Cucamonga never sounded better!

this is the instrumental version of Cucamonga on the Zappa/Beefheart album Bongo Fury great!!!!
