Interesting...I sometimes wondered about those guys. I did get the chance to see Walt and Bruce a couple times in '88.
WOW!!!!! I don't know whrere is my mind now!!!! Excellent. I think Frank is one of the best composers of the second half of the century,
This is pretty sweet, but it sounds far cooler on trumpet. Cool to hear the violin imitating a trumpet though.
Starting at the Jam Session at 2:24, it sounds like somethimg you would hear when watching Scooby-Doo. :P
Much of what the Fowler Brothers did here and in other performances was lost "off film" and it is really a shame. The entire Fowler Family are icons in the world of progressive jazz, and teaching ran in the blood, even if the only actual music teacher was the father William 'Doc' Fowler. The brothers, especially Tom, Walt and Bruce are still doing many musical projects, they just aren't in the public view so much, but still incredible players till this day!
The people who video these things have no idea what people want to see. Fowler is giving a lesson on trombone playing, and they don't even show his hand positions.
incredible - zappa is the best!
one of the most difficult of his compositions
Written for trumpet player Malcolm McNab.
You forgot Jean-Luc Ponty on violin
I always loved Ruth Underwood and her vibes.
just great !! one of my favorite
Great trombone 2:32 to 5:11 Bruce was the main man mon frere!
a sort of a tango great FZ
hooo
first class
Thanks Wesbroadway for all these great posts! Went to almost all the NY Zappa shows from 74-79. Good Times
Sorry, I forgot Ponty (on violin).
If someone likes to know who's playing on this one: FZ - guitar Ralph Humphrey - drums Bruce Fowler - trombone Ian Underwood - clarinet Tom Fowler - bass George Duke - keyboards Ruth Underwood - percussion
Fowler is mad tight.
I think he just doesn`t know what to do with himself
I think he's just frozen stiff.
Check out the face on Jean-Luc Ponty's face when Fowler is going at it. Priceless. He is just frozen stiff in awe.
