the way the media has behaved in this american election has been a disgrace, the way every question about obama's origins and associations with self black supremacists clerics and terrorists (like ayers) has been totally ignored or glossed over, meanwhile every word action from Mcain/Palin has has a negative commentary, like the so called "troopergate" , that trooper TAZED A 10 YEAR OLD, she should have been commended for that, not dragged thorough the mire.

Very good question. I see it more as a means of limiting discourse than trying to hide things. It's not that they DON'T cover the 'big' news; it's HOW they cover it. And I don't believe it's a conscious decision by most 'journalists' to do this either; I'm sure most of them believe what they say. But that's the real 'beauty' of this system; the most highly indoctrinated become drum-beaters for the system. Corporate news makes its money from selling ads, not from covering the news.

So what's a better alternative? Should the media call for the outright overthrow of the government?
What makes the left think they have a better way to deliver information? I've read Zmag, I've read Indymedia, and they don't have any "news," only leftwing interpretations of the information made availabl only through corporations and the government. What other viable alternative is there?

I would say, CrocodilusPontifex, that there is no single alternative out there. I try to read/watch as much as I can from many different sources. And there is some truth to what you say about leftwing 'after-the-fact' interpretations. However, the beauty of independent journalism (if you can find it) is that it simply doesn't have to conform to an edict from above (Fox News, for instance). I listen to a reporter/news station like I listen to a used-car salesman: with great skepticism.
