Muhammad Ali vs Sonny Liston 1 1964 pt1

Uploaded by: alant17

Video Stream Description:
Muhammad Ali (Cassius Clay) meets Sonny Liston in 1964 for the heavyweight title, with Joe Louis at ringside helping commentate. Muhammad Ali was given virtually no chance by the boxing world to beat the supposedly invincible champion Sonny Liston. Muhammad Ali stuns the world with his blinding speed and gives Liston nothing to hit but air. Liston, who is used to just hitting his opponents, and knocking them out easily with his tremendous power gets extremely frustrated as he gets a good boxing lesson. rounds 1-3

at one minute of the first round, as Clay/Ali is back-peddling, he let's go with a short right hand that is so fast you miss it if you blink God as my witness. that was first caught my attention to him...he's ability to dump punches in from incredible angles and fired off at an amazing hand-speed they don't look like much but really do have an effect. wish I could do that. I'd go back to Crookhaven, Ireland and kick every cousin of mine's Paddy ass! (LOL) God Bless... -Muhldoon

hey milesmuhldoon i dont think that right hand at 1 minute really hurt liston but i know what u mean ali did punch very fast u should look at the zora folley knockout or knockouts with 2 quick right hands.

no, it didn't hurt Liston physically but he had to wonder where the hell did that come from...it's this little electric shot that could look like a push-punch and catches Sonny flush on the jaw. later in the fight you see Cassius just pawing Liston with a left-jab...just holding out his left and tapping Sonny with it, as if to say, ''I can whatever I want to you'' incredible to be able to that to Sonny Liston. the confidence of Clay is outstanding.

looked to me like Sonny was trying to take Clay's head off in the 3rd & 5th rounds...didn't look fixed to me -- maybe Sonny took a dive in the 2nd fight...but I think Ali just completely outclassed Liston in this 1st fight

That "clumsy ox" put people on their backs for a living. To say that Liston is clumsy is ridiculous. Ali made everyone look that way.

Sonny Liston was ... ( 1 month ago by Brianjonestown)
Sonny Liston was the most intimidating champion before Foreman and Tyson. Even Clay was frightened of him. And he didn't get to be heavyweight champion by being a clumsy ox. So get your head out of your ass, kid, and appreciate the greatness of Ali.
man if look at clay ... ( 1 month ago by danmaster90)
man if look at clay in the doug jones fight and compare him with the liston fight he looks much bigger he must have started a weight training program but then again he looked pretty big in the henry cooper fight which was the last figh tbefore liston he needed to be bigger to fight liston

i like the way ali fights. keeps his hands low, but stays out of range because he knows he can move his head faster than liston can move his hands.

Check out this first round! Ali is not even at his best yet! Now tell me if you know any boxer in ring history, including Roy Jones or Ray Robinson,or Ray Leonard for that matter, who could move like Ali. Where is the film for proof? This is my proof, and ALi would of beaten Tyson at his best and anyone else. Amazing !!!
