A lot has to do with how old you are and what fights you listened to Live on radio or watched live on tv. Personally its Ali, Norton, Frasier up till L Lewis cleaned up the heavy weight division and then retired. Also middle weights and super middle weights in that era. Keep the good vids coming TBH.
For me it's almost impossible really to compare eras. Not only has boxing changed so much from decades a go the world has changed. Boxers who had it hard 50 years ago might be very different in today's environment getting paid millions and having the media spot light in front of them a lot of them might not be the same fighter, and I don't mean in just a good way. When comparing fighters from a few decades apart u have to just think about what they did in their respective times.
Every division in Boxing has its golden era and terrible eras. But all the divisions combined... that's hard because every era has some weak divisions. Late 40's to Early 50's was a good era. 80's and early 90's was great too. We witnessed a good era of featherweights late 90's and early 2000's too. Morales, Barrera, Pacquiao, Hamed, Marquez, Jr Jones, ect
great video uplpoads boxinghistorian!!
The 80's was obviously special for middles.. plus Tyson arrived and he was a phenonemon. Then you had Cesar Chavez, Camacho, Pernell, plus our own Benn,Watson,Eubank..so 80''s and early 90's was a terrific era. Also that was the era when a lot of those fights could still be seen on terrestrial TV for most of us. Now it's all PPV, which has meant smaller audiences. I still remember as a kid staying up late to first see Tyson around 86/87..He was just awesome back then. Happy days :)
True, but he still had the weight advantage. I also forgot to mention Marciano, cementing his legacy in the 50's.
was hardly a prime sugar ray but
The 50's was defaintly the best Middleweight Era. Carmen Basilio needs to be placed in the top 10 P4P. He goes up in weight to fight Sugar Ray Robinson, and beats him! Then there was Patterson, and Liston in the HW's which makes it close competition for the greatest Era. We all know who takes the cake tho ;) The 80's were amazing. Awesome vid! great breakdown, you made it real easy for us to choose as well, One.
I'm gonna agree with you and say the best heavyweight era was Ali, Foreman, Fraiser, etc. I really got into boxing during the time of Benn, Eubank, Nazeem, etc, I reckon that was a good era too. Ofcourse I cannot forget the era of Hagler, Hearns, Duran, Leonard, etc.
i like the 90's and now..but yu have to love 65-75..
50's
hagler hearns duran leonard definitely
