Maybe not here, but he has shown time and time again that he can pull off almost anything on the golf course, whether that is making a 9 on a par 5 or hitting a 145 yard gap wedge through a 6 foot window in the trees to 9 feet and making the birdie to win. Zing! That is Phil Mickelson.

Well... anyone who has ever golfed have done the same thing. Not many have the sucky luck to have it caught on tape and replayed over and over again to the jeering crowd of people who can't golf well enough to even make it to the tour in the first place, though. Mickelson makes no excuse for his poor decision, didn't curse, didn't throw his wedge or throw anyone a dirty look. Now... THAT's character. Much more telling than had he holed the first pitch out!

Ok, the first shot was bad luck. The next one was possibly a mis-hit. But after that, hitting two more shots like that is just dumb. He has got to play it smart and go for the back of the green and not the pin if he is risking double boggy. Instead he still goes for the pin and gets a 9. That isnt bad luck, that is just poor play. He did keep his cool, so I'll give him that.

Ya musta misread me. What I called 'bad luck' is in being caught on tape doing that and then having it replayed repeatedly to a jeering crowd (if you read the other comments here, you see a lot of people who actually enjoy watching Mickelson keep missing the pitch. That's what bugs me...). His keep doing the same thing expecting different result is what I called 'poor decision.' :o)

Being a golfer myself, I feel for Phil. To watch this, is painful...however, Phil is a "go-for-it" kinda guy and that's what I love about him - when I golf, I do just like him - I like to go for those "no guts no glory" kinda shots. Phil is what makes golfing so exciting to watch. Sometimes you make 'em and ...sometimes, things like this happen... you just never know in golf... You go Lefty!! I'll be watching ya from Emerald Canyon GC in Arizona!!

That's the good part about watching him: Mickelson's game is highly unpredictable. A month ago at Firestone, he looked like he would win, but made 3 bogeys at the end. At the PGA Championship, he made three straight birdies in the final round, but then started making bogeys after that. Last week, he made a double-bogey on a 290-Yard Par 4, and this week, he's the defending champion of this event, and he almost missed the cut. More unpredictability will happen through the remainder of the year.
