Ironic that there is a official Church of Sweden and a 80 percent non-belief population. Here in Boston we bristle at the thought of an official church yet our population is somewhere around 90 percent belief. Probably more to do with adaptive behavior than anything else.

Thanks for the post. It's nice to know that this debate also takes place in places like Sweden. In Europe, from what I've read, it seems that the religious traditions have more of an impact on society than in the US. Even though 80% of Swedes say they are atheist, there is still a substantial amount of money going towards religious organizations, simply because that's the way it's always been, not because the people necessarily want it that way.

It´s funny than in Scandinavia and the Czech Republic the small towns are actually much more secular than the big cities. Most religious people live in big cities. Completely different from the US or Canada.

If you are compare the US democrats to the swedish parties, it's far rightsist to us. But the sweden democrats is a conservative rasist/islamofobic party. The far-left are kommunists and anarkist =p The leftistparty is socialist.

You'd need to look into Czech Republic too; the fact that the pope is admitting that he can't excite a local crowd there probably speaks well for the place. That and the long and excellent brewing tradition.

Att "inte tro på gud" är lika lite en religion som att "inte samla på frimärken" är en hobby
