Jitsubr: It is ... ( 4 months ago by chomerly)
Jitsubr: It is thought that martial arts originated in India and worked it's way to China, then thought to have worked it's way in many forms over to Japan. Though you call it Karate & Judo Bullshit, you'll find that it's a battlefield martial art designed to help warriors defeat opponents during the feudal era when warriors lost their swords. Their armour was heavy and cumbersome so required a style to deal with it hence Jiu-Jitsu. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was taught in Brazil by a Japanese master.
yes BJJ was created ... ( 4 months ago by ByAnyAndAllMeans)
yes BJJ was created from kodokan judo.
karate is a okinawan art not japanese and judo was not used in feudal japan it a budo which was created in that late 19th century.
btw i dont think any budo was a battlefield art the japanese koryu were the battlefield arts....
Most people think ... ( 3 months ago by CCKsoldier)
Most people think of Jiu-Jitsu as in terms of BJJ and MMA. They don't understand the difference between full contact competition and point competition. (jitsubr is a douche)

If there was no Judo or Karate, there would be no Japanese Jiu Jitsu and without that, there would be no BJJ. And brazillians are quite fortunate that a Japanese master decided to head over there in the first place.

I practice Brazilian jiu jitsu- i'm a Nova Uniao Competitor. I can say this has only a bit of jiu jitsu. I saw only the traumatic part of the art. The main part wicht is guard, arm bars and stuff. i saw it very few.

In a large part of the world the word jiujitsu also refers to traditional japanese jujitsu. Jiujitsu and jujitsu are basicly the same thing. People should use the word "brazilian jiujitsu" if they are referring to BJJ to avoid confusion.

This is real ... ( 2 months ago by bladerunnerdb)
This is real jujitsu. BJJ is an excellent art but has it flaws ie bad stand up. It also reinvents the wheel, ie the omoplata and the twister for example. Both techniques have long been practised in jujitsu. Each art is a product of its time and equally valid. Without the older arts BJJ, MMA NHB wouldn't exist, they too will become dated, the fundamental principles however are the same. Style based arrogance is immature and ignorant. Neither is real combat, they have referees. Real fights don't.
When Kano started ... ( 2 months ago by bladerunnerdb)
When Kano started his form of Judo, he challenged other Jujitsu masters in a safe competition, upon which Judo was founded. The only school to allegedly defeat Kanos Judo was a ground based Jujitsu fighting style, I forget the name, possibly the forerunner of BJJ. Consequently Kano included newaza (ground fighting) in his syllabus.

Some were demonstrations. Kind of like two man kata. Very common in Jujitsu. Well done too.
