@BdaisParadise yes... I feel you're absolutely right. And it's a shame that heavy editing and reality shows have so much place in today's culture. Wouldn't it have been so much better to watch the unedited clip...

Susan is an amazing talent, but much of her subsequent success comes down to the editing of this clip. The structure is like a mini film/magic act, complete with Pledge, Turn, & Prestige. The "pledge" (or set up) is the low expectation as she walks out on stage...the "turn" (the key moment of all) is Simon's eyebrow raise at 1:59...and the "prestige" is either when she hits the high note and gets everyone out of their seat, or the judges comments (or her reactions offstage...you choose).
