y'all stupid.. nunn was a very good fighter n a proud champion. ballet dancer, bum? his trainer was angelo dundee, same guy who trained ali n leonard. wouldn't train no bum. n he was 36-0 goin in. nunn was a very good fighter, no matter wut might've happened later. commentators do suck though

Toney hit Nunn with a left hook similar to the famous one fraizer cought Ali with in the first fight. Perfect punch

As for Nunn, he showed what he was made of after the loss. What do real greats do? They come back and kick ass, much like the greats you guys mentioned. This guy basically fell off the radar after one significant loss. Sooner or later all boxers meet a guy who just has his number. And JT had a lot of guys numbers, but RJJ clearly had his. He came back. Its what you do after the shit hits the fan that makes the difference.

Yea Nunn won the WBA super middlewieght title after this, smart one.

My bad. Been a while since I looked him up on Boxrec and forgot about that. Yet Toney went on, and this guy is in jail for drugs. I was right, but forgot that point.

nunn round 10 round 11 wow!!
I say nunn's workrate caused toney a lot of problems, he's a great fighter in his own right, Toney may have lost the decision.
Nunn did win the ... ( 3 months ago by dposluch)
Nunn did win the WBA Supermiddleweight championship the next year and defended it four times. To be sure, he didn't really come all the way back, but if you look at his record, I don't think you can say he fell off the radar.
Nunn was on the ... ( 2 months ago by amck72)
Nunn was on the rador mostly for his constant partying , drugs and not training properly which led to his loss with Toney. He self destructed now he is serving more than 24 years for drug dealing. Waste of talent.
cannot believe you ... ( 2 months ago by flyinghotwing)
cannot believe you are going to try to make excuses for michael second to one, toney knocked him the fuck out and that was that, it was time, sooner or later for a fighter to be beat and this was his day...as for toney, he showed that he could balloon way up to heavyweight and still be a very elusive, and great champion at several weight classes, got to say that Toney has had the better career overall, and he definitely started it with that great 11 round KO of M.Nunn, who was very talented
michael had very ... ( 2 months ago by flyinghotwing)
michael had very little punching power and he finally met someone with the skill and endurance to fight along with the pittypats until the big left hook landed, and nunn after that was lookin for some drugs to ease the pain...michael was a good fighter i remember that but james put his lights out and continued that in many other future fights...
You don't need ... ( 2 months ago by mbembani)
You don't need power to win boxing my friend we have seen heavy punchers on the canvas dead and out (Sonny liston, George forman, shavers and even mike TRyson) just mention a few. Skill and intelligence matters in anything you do leave alone boxing! you can not bring a huge powerful body to the ring without a brain and except to win - Nunn was great it a pity he has all but himself to blame for being jettisoned to oblivion
Hometown crowd or ... ( 2 months ago by kolst8406)
Hometown crowd or not, the ref should have stopped the fight after that knockdown. The SOB ought to be forced to go a round with Toney.

This might have started the decline of Olympic style boxers and that pitty pat shit...Toney's one of the most underrated cats I've ever seen...Great fighter and great post...

Those announcers are horrible. They shouldn't be working a pee-wee girls softball game, never mind a championship fight.

He was getting hit a lot in that last round even before the ko punch.

Benn would have had a field day against these two overated bums
If there was a ... ( 1 week ago by Pyrrhus72)
If there was a fight James Toney earned his nickname "LIGHTS OUT" it was this. He was a 20-1 underdog, by the way. Toney just beat Rahman and Nunn is in prison serving 24 years.
