Tommy Morrison vs Ray Mercer

Uploaded by: InspHarryCallahan

Video Stream Description:
The rounds rarley seen. In 1988 it was either Morrison or Mercer who were going to represent the U.S. in the Olympics, Mercer who won by way of split decision and went on to win the gold medal was now facing Tommy again. For rounds Mercer was receiving punishment, hurt badly he was trying to hold on. Tommy leading on the scorecards threw so many powershots at Mercer he tired, Mercer siezed the moment and we all know what happened next, where the ref was during that 5th round, your guess is as good as mine. Too bad Morrison was the first one to discover Mercer's awesome chin, giving others in the division somewhat of a gameplan if a bout with Mercer occured. With a Foreman like game plan one has to wonder how Tommy would have fared. Heres what Ray titanic chin Mercer had to say when asked who hit the hardest during his career as a boxer:
Tommy Morrison. Morrison hit me so hard to the body with those hooks that I was actually farting in the ring. (Laughs) You have to act like...you can't let the guy see that you're hurt, but I'm pretty sure he heard and smelled a couple of things. (Laughs) But he hit me harder than I was ever hit in boxing.

hahaha ali did not ... ( 4 months ago by douker)
hahaha ali did not go toe to toe with foreman. He ran the whole fight until foreman was exhausted and then dispatched him. A victory, yes, but lets not get carried away.
lol what??? old??? ... ( 4 months ago by rickbeezer34)
lol what??? old??? he was 30 and well experienced....tommy was way too young and his dumb ass corner just said go ahead and just knock him out.. they never gave tommy a strategy to win...2 years later mercer turned down a 2nd fight with morrison because he knew payback would have been a bitch!

I don't know - Golota creamed a prime Bowe, and I would pick Morrison against Golota.
However, Golota threw that fight away by acting crazy and consistently low-blowing - despite being miles ahead on points.
Douker! In the ... ( 3 months ago by siriusb73)
Douker! In the words of ali "is that all you got?" Lets's not deny Ali's ability to withstand "punishment" in order to accomplish a strategy. this fight went beyond the idea of toe to toe. (foreman dealt alot of punishment to ali)if Ali traded, Ali would have tired and possibly lost like all the others frazier, norton who tried toe to toe with the "mummy" .
-"you picked the ... ( 3 months ago by siriusb73)
-"you picked the wrong place to be tired!" STRATEGY- "rope a dope" -where was ali running from? "Ali's Back against the wall mentality beat foreman". if you want an example of "running" or a fighter using superior speed due inferor size; study Louis vs Conn fight-Louis said, He ran but could not hide! by the way who do you think was ahead in the ali/foreman fight until the KO was delivered?
I'm not sure what ... ( 3 months ago by douker)
I'm not sure what you are arguing or what point you are trying to make. I wasn't saying Ali SHOULD have gone toe-to-toe with him because we all know what would have happened. Ali knew what would have happened.
So he arranged for ... ( 3 months ago by douker)
So he arranged for extra flexible ropes, an extra large ring, and was fortunate that his opponent exhausted himself through endless head-hunting. And whenever things got in close he would clinch and press down on Foreman's head... things that are all frowned upon in today's boxing. Nevertheless, he came away with the victory and no one can argue that.
Both Tommy and Ray ... ( 3 months ago by hardhead233)
Both Tommy and Ray would clean up in today's heavyweight division, people were sleeping on these guys from the early 90', Morrison, Mercer, Ruddock etc all three of those guys clean up today..

Buddy, I think Tommy, Ray, and Razor could wipe out all current heavy champions besides Waldimir Kltschko.
Andrew always among ... ( 3 months ago by kuluku)
Andrew always among one of the best heavyweight in 1990s and first half of this decade. He do crushed prime Bowe, when he against, Andrew was still immature actually, if he could have been much mature, he should have finished fucking Bowe in both fights.
Pal, I also think ... ( 3 months ago by kuluku)
Pal, I also think that Corrie Sanders was underestimated. I saw his fights in mid 1990s,all perfect wins! But Corrie never got a chance to fight any big names in that time, if he did, he could have established his name in heavy weight.
Thanks for posting ... ( 2 months ago by monegarand)
Thanks for posting the whole fight, most people just see the knockout. Morrison was thoroughly out boxing him before Mercer caught him on the ropes. Morrison had a lot of skills but had a very weak chin.

But Tommy's loose defense and his glass chin will sent himself into knock out in middle rounds.

Tommy Morrison was an explosive fighter. That 3 punch combination to Mercers head would of knocked out most fighters but Mercer was tough and had a granite chin. Great fight!!
