With regrets, if you refer to Clegg, I doubt if he's now out of context. One who has grown up within the culture has become a part of the context giving it definition which otherwise it wouldn't have had. Anyone who has studied phenomenology and social philosophy knows this.

Johnny Clegg, Charlize Theron, Jane Goodall, the Leakeys...all are white, yes -- but because of their ancestry, their country of birth, the culture they have accepted and lived in and thrived in and disseminated, they are ALL AFRICAN. Skin color alone doesn't make you from a country/continent. When someone like Clegg, who is a Zulu chief (!) is talking, ignorant never-been-out-of-the-US loudmouths should keep quiet, listen and learn. Period.

/dismiss the critics, though I understand it. Clegg isn't Elvis or Paul Simon or David Byrne. He has a very close relationship with the Zulu people and his life is interconnected with Zulus on many levels. If that weren't enough, he built his career during apartheid, when it was dangerous to do so. He lost friends to the violence of that era and was an international voice of protest against apartheid. At some point, surely, he has passed the need of having to listen to racially divisive critics.
